We have been advised, today, that long standing EALABA member Steve Ireland has retired from bowls. Steve has served his County, Club & EALABA for many years, playing at a very high standard and successfully competing alongside & against able bodied bowlers. We wish Steve and his Dianne, success for the future.

There were 6 player members of EALABA at the DBE v The North over the weekend of 20th – 21st January 2024; Steve Angus, Colin Wagstaff, Barry Nicholson, Mac Otton, David Stearn and Gary Swift. EALABA recently held their National Drawn Pairs 2023 over a full and exciting weekend. Unfortunately, there were a couple of late withdrawals however, our supporters stepped up to play. Thank you Ray Gray and David Nicholson. The competition is a drawn pairs league with pairings selected using a double blind random selector off the internet.
During the last 10 days, England DBE squads have won 2 Championships with EALABA bowlers help. First came the PD and VI team playing the Home Nations Championship against Wales and Scotland at the Newport Indoor Bowls Club. The EIBA National Championship Finals are held at Nottingham Indoor Bowls Club from 23rd March to 15th April. This year a number of EALABA players took part in Disability Bowls England competitions. First came the DBE Champion of Champions semi-final and final. All combatants are DBE Champions in their own right. EALABA’s Steve Angus (B7)
It hardly seems like 12 months since the previous EALABA’s challenge vs Tamworth Indoor Bowls however, there has been a lot of water under the bridge in that time. Chairman Gary Swift has stepped down and is taking 12 months out for personal reasons, and Ros Otton, Secretary since 2007, has resigned through ill health.
